Temple History

The Sri Venkateswara Temple is a famous Hindu temple situated in the hill town of Tirumala at Tirupati in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, an incarnation of Vishnu, who is believed to have appeared here to save mankind from trials and troubles of Kali Yuga.

According to temple legend, the construction of the temple was commissioned by a Chola king in the 12th century CE. The temple has been mentioned in ancient texts and has been a center of pilgrimage for over 1000 years.

Spiritual Significance

Lord Venkateswara is known by many names including Balaji, Govinda, and Srinivasa. The deity is believed to be very powerful and is said to fulfill the wishes of devotees. The temple follows ancient Vaikhanasa Agama traditions in its daily worship and rituals.
